About the sport
Ball badminton is a racquet sport that grew up in southern India and is played across several Indian states, from district level to national championships and inter-university competitions. Two teams of five players face each other across a net, using light rackets to hit a yellow ball made of wool. The ball must be returned before it touches the ground, which makes rallies quick and gives the sport its character.
Because it is played by teams of five, ball badminton is organised more like a team sport than like shuttle badminton. Coaches pick a side from a squad that includes substitutes, players hold positions on court, and a championship is a contest between districts, clubs, colleges or institutions as much as between players.
Competition structure
A ball badminton championship usually holds men's and women's team events across several age categories, for example sub-junior, junior, youth and senior groups. A state championship can bring together teams from every district in each category, all sharing the same courts over several days.
Zeetius Tournaments gives each event and category its own entries, eligibility rules and draw. Teams register online and pay their entry fee in the same step, and each team enters its full squad, so every named player is checked against the category's age rules before the draw is made.
Every player in a squad holds a single record. When the same player is registered with a district team in one season and an institution team in another, the history stays with the player, which matters for associations that track participation and selection over the years.
Draws and scheduling
Ball badminton championships often open with league or pool stages, where each team plays every other team in its group, followed by a knockout for the leading teams. Smaller events may run as a straight knockout with seeds and byes. Zeetius Tournaments generates these formats and lets the organiser adjust the draw before it is published.
Seeds can come from the previous year's results or your own ranking of teams, so the strongest districts are kept apart until the later rounds. Pool standings are calculated from match results as they come in, so the qualifying teams are known as soon as a group is complete.
Many ball badminton events are played outdoors and run into the evening under lights, often across a limited number of courts. The scheduler builds each day around the courts available and the rest each team needs between matches, and matches can be moved to another court when one falls behind.
Live scores
Ball badminton matches are commonly played over three sets, with each set played to a fixed points target and ends changed at set points during the set. Points targets and conventions have changed over the years and can differ between competitions, so Zeetius does not hard-code a single rule. The points target, the number of sets and the change-of-ends points are configured for each event to match the rules your association applies.
Matches scored on Zeetius appear on the public live scores page, which shows ball badminton as a set grid: each team's score in every set, the set in progress and the match status. Supporters can filter the page to ball badminton alone with the sport selector on /live/livescore, and follow every court of the championship from one screen.
Final scores feed straight into the event's results and pool standings, so the next round's fixtures are known without anyone collecting score sheets from each court. If your competition uses its own scoring conventions, talk to us about setting them up before the event.
Associations
Ball badminton is administered through national, state and district associations, and much of their work is registration: players, teams, clubs, institutions and the technical officials who referee the matches. Zeetius Federation keeps one record for each of them, with renewals, transfers and online payments handled in the same place.
Each tier can have its own access, so a district association registers its players and teams while the state association sees every district and every sanctioned event. Referees and umpires are accredited and nominated to championships from the same record, and Zeetius Tournaments allocates them to individual matches.
Results from sanctioned championships build up a history for every team and player, which supports selection for state and national squads. Certificates for every participant are generated in bulk from the results, and the association's public website can show its calendar, draws and results under its own name.
Clubs, schools and events
Much of ball badminton's grassroots play happens in schools, colleges and local clubs. Zeetius Academy supports coaching with batches, attendance, assessments and fees, so a club or coaching centre can see which players are progressing and which need attention, and parents can follow their own child's record.
State and national championships bring teams, coaches and officials together for several days. Zeetius Connect accredits them online before they arrive, manages accommodation, meals and transport, and uses QR codes for entry and meal coupons, so the venue keeps moving on busy mornings.
Ztream by Zeetius can stream matches with the score and graphics on screen, which lets families and supporters in other districts watch the finals. Highlights and short clips can be prepared for social media while the championship is still running.
