Basketball on Zeetius

Basketball tournament software and live scoring

Zeetius runs basketball competitions from the first team entry to the final certificate. Teams register and pay online, fixtures are generated as pools, leagues or knockouts, and table officials score each game live on the Zeetius multi-sport scoresheet, with the running score and a quarter-by-quarter breakdown published on the Zeetius live score page.

Competition structure

How basketball tournaments are structured on Zeetius

Basketball competitions are team events first. Games are played five-a-side with rolling substitutions, and teams are entered by clubs, schools, colleges, districts or states. Zeetius Tournaments treats each team as an entry with its own roster, so age and registration are checked for every player named on it, not only for the team as a whole.

A single championship usually runs several categories at once: under-14, under-16, under-18 and senior, for men and women. Each category is its own event in the tournament listing, with its own entry fee, roster limits and draw, while the whole championship sits under one listing page that carries your organisation's name and branding.

3x3 basketball is a distinct format, played on a half court with one hoop, shorter games and a different scoring scale. Where you run 3x3 alongside the full-court game, it is set up as a separate event with its own rules, so its fixtures, results and rankings stay apart from the five-a-side competition.

  • Age categories. Under-age and senior events, for men and women, each with its own eligibility rules and entry fee.
  • Roster checks. Every player on a team list is checked against age category and registration status as the team enters.
  • Five-a-side and 3x3. Both formats in one championship, listed and drawn as separate events.

Draws and fixtures

Basketball pools, leagues and knockout brackets

Most basketball championships begin with a group stage and finish with a knockout. Zeetius Tournaments generates pools and round-robin fixtures from your entries, seeds teams from rankings or previous results, and carries the pool qualifiers into a knockout bracket for the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final.

Basketball games cannot end in a draw, so pool standings are built on wins and losses, then on tie-breaks such as head-to-head results and points difference. The order of tie-breaks varies between competitions, so it is configured for each event to match the rules your technical committee publishes.

League seasons run differently from weekend championships. A club, school or district league can be set up as a single or home-and-away round robin played over several weeks, with the fixtures published in advance and the table updated as each round's results come in.

Courts and officials

Scheduling basketball games across courts and days

A basketball game occupies a court for much longer than its playing time. The clock stops for fouls, free throws, timeouts and the breaks between quarters, and a tied game goes to overtime. Schedules need realistic slot lengths and a buffer, or the last games of the day start late.

Zeetius Tournaments manages several courts at once and keeps the schedule adjustable in real time. When a game overruns, the next games on that court can be moved or switched to a free court, and the change appears on the published schedule straight away. Teams playing twice in a day can be given rest between games.

Referees, scorers and timekeepers are nominated and allocated to games in the same system, so officials and courts are planned together rather than on separate spreadsheets. Venues that also take everyday bookings can use Courtz by Zeetius, which blocks courts automatically for the duration of a Zeetius Tournaments event and releases them if it finishes early.

Live scoring

Basketball live scoring by quarter

Basketball points come in ones, twos and threes, credited to a team and a player. Scoring officials record them on the Zeetius multi-sport scoresheet, which also runs the game clock, so the score and the time move together from the scorer's table to every screen following the game.

On the Zeetius live score page each basketball game appears as a card showing the two teams, the running score, the game clock and the current quarter. Beneath the score a small grid shows the points each team scored in each quarter, so followers can see how the game was won as well as the result.

The clock is the hard part of live basketball. Instead of repeatedly sending the time, the scoresheet sends the moments the clock starts and stops, and each screen works out the current time from those events. A follower who reconnects after losing signal sees the correct time at once rather than a stale one.

  • Points by value. Free throws, two-point and three-point baskets, recorded against the team and the player.
  • Game clock. Started and stopped by the scoring official and shown live on every card.
  • Quarter grid. Points for each quarter, shown under the running score.
  • Your rules. Quarter length, overtime, team-foul limits and timeouts differ between competitions; tell us which rules you play to when your event is set up.

Federations and associations

Basketball federation and association software

A basketball federation manages players, clubs, officials and a calendar of sanctioned events at national, state and district level. Zeetius Federation keeps one record for every member, with registration, renewals, transfers between clubs and a complete history, so eligibility for a championship is checked against data the federation already holds.

Districts and clubs can have their own logins, working on their own members and teams while the federation sees the whole picture. Membership fees and tournament entries are paid online and recorded against each member, and email and SMS messages about renewals, entries and results go out automatically.

Referees and table officials are accredited in the same system and nominated for the events they are qualified to officiate. Rankings and certificates are prepared from real results. For national or multi-day championships, Zeetius Connect handles accreditation, accommodation, meals and transport for teams and officials, with QR codes scanned at entry.

Clubs and academies

Basketball academy and club management

Basketball academies run batches by age and ability, often across several centres and courts. Zeetius Academy holds each athlete's profile, batch and attendance, and coaches record attendance and assessments on the mobile app during the session rather than writing them up afterwards.

Fees, coach payroll and expense claims sit in the same system as the training, so an owner sees collections, attendance and coaching hours together. Parents see their own child's attendance, assessments and fees, and nothing else. Academies with several centres manage each one separately and see the whole organisation in one view.

Academies can run internal competitions and manage entries to external tournaments, so the player who trains in a batch on Tuesday is the same player entered in the district championship at the weekend. Zet AI inside Zeetius Academy answers questions about the academy's own attendance, assessment and fee data.

  • Batches and centres. Training groups by age and level, across one centre or many.
  • Attendance and assessments. Recorded on court by coaches, visible to parents for their own child.
  • Fees and payroll. Collections, claims and coach pay reconciled with the training schedule.

Something else on your mind? Talk to our team.

Can Zeetius score basketball games live?

Yes. Basketball is scored live on the Zeetius multi-sport scoresheet, and games appear on the Zeetius live score page with the running score, the game clock, the current quarter and the points each team scored in every quarter.

Does Zeetius support 3x3 basketball?

3x3 can be run as its own event in Zeetius Tournaments, with its own categories, entries and fixtures. Because its game length and scoring scale differ from five-a-side, tell us how you want 3x3 games scored live and we will set the event up accordingly.

Can we use our own competition rules?

Yes. Quarter length, overtime, pool tie-breaks and limits on team fouls and timeouts vary between competitions and levels. Formats are configured for each event, so share the rules your technical committee uses and the tournament is set up to match them.

Can teams enter and pay online?

Yes. Teams enter through the tournament listing page, name their roster and pay the entry fee online. Eligibility, such as age category and registration status, is checked for each player as the roster is entered.

Can we allocate referees, scorers and timekeepers?

Yes. Referees, scorers and timekeepers are nominated and allocated to games in Zeetius Tournaments, in the same system that manages the courts and the schedule, so officials and courts are planned together rather than on separate spreadsheets.

Can we book basketball courts through Zeetius?

Yes. Courtz by Zeetius handles court booking for basketball venues, with recurring bookings for academy batches and pricing that can vary by time band or day. Courts used by a Zeetius Tournaments event are blocked automatically.
