Throwball on Zeetius

Throwball tournament software and live scoring

Throwball is played in schools, colleges and clubs across India, and its competitions are often large inter-school and inter-collegiate meets with many age groups on a few courts. Zeetius Tournaments takes team entries, builds pools and knockouts and schedules the courts, while Zeetius Federation turns results into rankings and keeps players and officials on record.

Built for school and college meets

Age groups, boys', girls' and mixed events, and institution-wise entries under one tournament listing.

Rosters checked at entry

Every named player is checked against age category and registration status before the draw is made.

Your format, your rules

Sets, points targets and pool ranking rules are configured per event, so the results follow the rules you publish.

The game

How throwball is played

Throwball is a net game played by two teams on a rectangular court divided by a raised net. Instead of hitting the ball, players catch it and throw it back over the net, aiming to land it in the opponents' court or force them into a fault. A team usually has nine players on court, with substitutes named on the team sheet.

A point is lost when the ball lands in a team's own court, is thrown out of bounds, is dropped, or when the thrower commits a fault such as an illegal throw or holding the ball too long. Because the ball must be caught cleanly and released quickly, the game rewards safe hands, accurate throwing and good court coverage.

Throwball is usually played in sets, often best of three, with a points target and a margin to win each set. Rules on the number of sets, the points target, rotation and substitutions vary between associations and age groups, so these are configured by the organiser for each event rather than fixed by the software.

  • Catch and throw. The ball is caught and thrown over the net, never hit, which makes clean catching the core skill.
  • Nine players a side. Usually nine on court, with substitutes named on the roster.
  • Configurable sets. The number of sets, the points target and the winning margin are set for each event.

Entries and categories

Throwball entries for schools, colleges and clubs

Throwball competitions are often organised around institutions. An inter-school meet can have under-14, under-17 and under-19 events for girls and boys, and an inter-collegiate championship can have teams from dozens of colleges. Zeetius Tournaments publishes one listing for the meet, with each category as its own event and its own entry fee, eligibility rules and draw.

Teams enter online with a named roster, and each player is checked against age category and registration status as the team registers. Questions about over-age players or players from another institution are settled at entry, rather than at the scorer's table when the first match is due to start.

Entry fees can be paid online and recorded against the team or the institution, and team managers can see their entries, rosters and schedule in one place. The listing, the draw and the certificates can all carry the organiser's own branding, whether that is a school, a university or a throwball association.

Pools and knockouts

Throwball pools, leagues and knockout draws

Large throwball meets usually start with pools and finish with knockouts. Zeetius Tournaments generates pools and round-robin fixtures from the entries, seeds teams from rankings or previous results, and carries the pool qualifiers into a bracket through to the final. Smaller events can be played as a straight knockout or a single round robin.

Pool standings are decided by matches won, then by tie-break rules such as set ratio or point ratio. The order of these rules differs between associations, so it is configured for each event to match the rules the organiser publishes. Zet AI can suggest balanced seeds and keep teams from the same district or institution apart in the early rounds.

League formats suit district and club competitions played over several weekends. Fixtures are published in advance and the table is updated after each round, so teams know where they stand and what they need from their remaining matches. Results from a league season can also be used to seed the following year's tournaments.

  • Pools, then knockouts. Group fixtures generated automatically, with qualifiers drawn into a bracket.
  • Seeding. Teams placed from rankings or past results so the strongest do not meet early.
  • Tie-breaks. Matches won, set ratio and point ratio applied in the order your rules set.

Courts and officials

Scheduling throwball across courts and age groups

A school or college throwball meet often has many teams and only a few courts, sometimes over just one or two days. Zeetius Tournaments runs every court at once and builds the schedule so that a team is never called to two courts together and has rest between matches, even when the same institution has teams in several age groups.

Matches vary in length, especially when a set is closely contested. When a match overruns, the next fixtures can be moved to a free court and the published schedule updates for every team manager and parent following the event. Zet AI can see overruns coming and propose court changes before teams are left waiting.

Referees, umpires, scorers and line judges are nominated and allocated to matches in the same system, so courts and officials are planned together. Officials can be rotated through the day and kept away from matches involving their own institution or district.

Live scores and results

Throwball live scores, results and rankings

Throwball on Zeetius is scored live. The scorer at the table beside the court enters each point on the Zeetius multi-sport scoresheet, which is set up for the sets and points target your event uses. Team managers, students, parents and teachers who cannot be at every court follow the match on the public live score page at zeetius.com/live/livescore, filtered to throwball.

Zeetius Federation prepares rank lists from real results by age group and category, which an association can use to seed the next season's events, pick district and state teams or recognise the strongest schools and colleges. Every ranking can be traced back to the matches that produced it.

When a match ends, the score entered at the court is confirmed by the officials and published as the official result, set by set. Pool tables update, qualifiers move into the knockout and teams see where they play next, and certificates for every participant are generated in bulk from the results instead of being written by hand after the meet.

Associations and academies

Throwball association and academy management

Throwball is governed through national, state and district associations that register players and teams, sanction events and appoint officials. Zeetius Federation registers players, clubs, institutions and officials once and keeps them current through renewals, transfers and seasons, with online payments and automatic email and SMS reminders.

Each tier of the structure can have its own access, so a district association runs its own championship and works on its own members while the state or national body sees every player and every sanctioned event. Referees and umpires are accredited, nominated and allocated from the same records.

Schools, colleges and academies that coach throwball can use Zeetius Academy for athletes, batches, training plans, attendance and assessments, with fees and coach payroll in the same system. For multi-day state and national championships, Zeetius Connect accredits teams and officials and manages accommodation, meals and transport with QR validation.
